Na het project met het wijnglas (Glass) in 2015, waren de Badboys (ik en mijn maatje Ad) wel blij met de foto’s van toen, maar we hadden niet de foto’s die we voor ogen hadden. Het moest dus (veel) beter, mooier en grootser en zijn we 1.5 jaar bezig geweest met nadenken, plannen maken, research, testen, nog meer nadenken en testen….. en ons plan werd alsmaar groter en groter.

Het zou niet alleen een nieuwe fotoserie worden, maar ook wilden we een tutorial maken voor de leden van onze fotoclub, een nog betere videopresentatie en dit moest natuurlijk in een grote zaal met groot scherm en supergeluid gepresenteerd gaan worden in oktober 2017. 

Het bestuur van de fotoclub werd vroegtijdig (verplicht) verzocht het programma op die avond te wijzigen, zonder dat wij aangaven wat er  zou gaan gebeuren. Het bestuur kent ons, en na wat tegenspartelingen waren ze overtuigd dat het waarschijnlijk wel goed zou komen.
Twee leden van de fotoclub hebben foto’s tijdens onze uiteindelijke fotoshoot gemaakt, die hebben we gebruikt in onze presentatie. De zaal moest worden geregeld en ook daarin hebben we medewerking gekregen. En natuurlijk moesten in de tussentijd de foto’s en de film gemaakt gaan worden, en dat is allemaal gelukt.

Uiteindelijk was het dan zover, op 19 oktober 2017 hebben we GLASS II getoond, middels de videopresentatie en daarna 10 ingelijste foto’s onthuld die nader bekeken konden worden door de leden van de fotoclub. 

De conclusie van de Badboys is dat het heel veel tijd, energie en doorzettingsvermogen heeft gekost, maar… We have done it!!

Before oktober we had about 4 weeks of preparation. The photoshoot self took 2 days.

The whole first day we were preparing composition, lightning and most of all: preparing the Cognisys. The Cognisys registered the sound of the gun and should fire the flashes a few milliseconds later. It took several hours to find out how many milliseconds this should be.

The second day we used to make the pictures. We have shot a bit more then 80 glasses that weekend.

This project will be done again but in a different setup in 2017!!!

This time I placed a soapbubble on a mirror. From a height of approximately 1.50 mtr a drop of paint fell through the soapbubble. Most of the time the soapbubble did not collapse. (I used (after testing lots) a solution of normal bubblesoap for children and mixed it with glycerin. The glycerin makes the bubble a bit stronger)

Especially the lightning caused lots of troubles. You see everything reflected in the soapbubble and/or the mirror. Even the smallest pices of dirt. After each shot the mirror had to be cleaned perfectly, which took most of the time…

This is on ongoing project throughout the years. The tiny men I use are from Preiser and are about 2 cm in height. (Normally used for modeltrains H0)

World in Bubbles is my third serie in Liquid Art.

The soapbubbles fly around in the sky and have beautiful colours. (But depending of which soapsolution you use). I have mixed it with a bit of glycerine so that the soapbubble last longer.

When the sun is shining and you have also a bit of clouds, makes it perfect. But this also menas that you will have wind. The most tiny amount of wind will make the soapbubbles move!

What I have learned doing this:
The object you want to photograph must be really big.
Look for a dark background, this will make the colours of the bubble more outstanding.
Make sure that you have no wind where you want to blow the bubbels.
You have to act very fast with your focussing!
Try to make pictures when the bubble is on the exact same level of your camera. This way you will only see what is behind you, and you, the photographer, will not be in the picture.
Have confidence in yourself and especially have lots of patience!!

Painting on Music was my second project “Liquid Art”

I have used a heavy bass-speaker to make short “boom” sound. The sound went to a piece of a ballon on which small paintdrops were placed (sometimes with tiny waterdrops also). The sound makes the ballon tremble by which the paintdrops fly into the air. The drops flew up to 30 cm into the sky (and i just had refurbished our floor in the livingroom …)

I used a Cognisys which registrates sound and after a few milliseconds fires the connected flashes.

It took about 3 days to get the right settings, also because not every paintcolor had the same viscosity. (How thicker the paint, how slower it reacts)

In between every shot, the surface had to be completely cleaned, and new paint and waterdrops to be placed.
